Solar-powered air conditioning could come to Brazil

The system reduces electricity consumption by around 50% and can be a solution to save on the electricity bill.

An air conditioner that consumes 50% less energy is close to arriving in Brazil. That’s because a large part of its operation is powered by solar energy, and the installation is simpler than that of a conventional air conditioner. Gilberto Rodrigues, owner of the Minas Gerais-based company LuxTerm Soluções Sustentáveis, says he is already in negotiations to bring the product to Brazil.
It’s an air conditioner that has vacuum glass tubes that capture solar energy. From there, it allows the air conditioner to operate using 50% less energy. It’s a hybrid system it’s connected to conventional electricity, but partially uses solar energy,” he explains.
Ainda segundo o empresário, a ideia é tentar importar o produto a um preço mais acessível. “A expectativa é que em dois meses ele já esteja sendo vendido aqui. O problema é que a tarifa para ar condicionado é mais alta do que para outros produtos elétricos, mas estamos tentando arrumar um jeito. Pode ser que ele custe em torno de R$ 2.500. Mas é um aparelho que se paga ao longo do tempo pelo tanto que você vai economizar na conta de luz”, explica.
The company, which focuses on sustainable solutions, also works with solar panels that convert solar energy into electricity, as well as solar water heaters.
